Accessing and Using the Library

A guide to visiting, finding library collections, using the photocopiers and printing, and how to contact us

Eating and Drinking

No eating or drinking (including bottle water) is permitted in the Library.  This rule is in place to protect books from damage and to avoid attracting vermin to the Library.  Please help us to preserve our invaluable collection by respecting this rule.

There are other areas within the Institute where eating and drinking are permitted:

The Common Room is located in the basement and is open all day.  Readers may bring their own food or drink to eat there, or make use of the self-service Nespresso machine at any time of day.  Nespresso pods can be purchased from Reception.

During term-time, the Common Room hosts Hot Lunch Wednesday between 1pm - 2pm. The menu changes weekly but there is always a choice of one meat or one vegetarian main course, plus a vegetarian soup option.  Prices from £3.50 to £4.50.

Tea, coffee and snacks are available to buy in the Common Room at 4pm - 4.30pm every day during term time.

Drinking water is available from the kitchens on the Institute side of the building.  There are kitchens on the second floor (room 211), third floor (room 316) and fourth floor (room 408).
